Alright y’all, listen up! We got somethin’ special brewin’ today. It’s a recipe that takes you RIGHT back to Sunday dinners at Grandma’s house. We talkin’ that kind of comfort food, but with a twist. Forget slavin’ over a hot stove all day, this one’s a no-bake wonder! We’re makin’ a Semifreddo, Nonna-style. Think frozen mousse meets pie filling. It’s cool, creamy, and oh-so-satisfyin'.
Semifreddo della Nonna - Grandma’s Frozen Delight

This ain’t yo’ mama’s ice cream, y’hear? This is somethin’ a little more fancy, a little more *extra*. But don’t let that scare ya! It’s simple to throw together, I promise you. Just gather your ingredients, put on some good music, and let’s get to it!
Ingredients:
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream, chilled
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup amaretti cookies, crushed (or graham crackers if you prefer!)
- 1/2 cup toasted almonds, chopped
- 1/4 cup chocolate shavings
- 1/4 cup lemon zest
- 1/4 cup Candied orange peel, chopped
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions:
- Get Ready: Line a loaf pan (about 9x5 inches) with plastic wrap, leavin’ plenty hangin’ over the sides. This is gonna help you lift that semifreddo out later, trust me.
- Whip It Good: In a large bowl, whip that heavy cream until you get stiff peaks. You know, when you lift the whisk, it stands up all proud-like? That’s what we want. Be careful not to overwhip it, though!
- Mix It Up: In another bowl, gently fold in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract into the whipped cream. Be gentle, we want to keep that air in there!
- Layer It On: Now for the fun part! Pour about a third of the cream mixture into the lined loaf pan. Sprinkle with half of the crushed amaretti cookies (or graham crackers), half of the toasted almonds, half of the chocolate shavings, half of the lemon zest and half of the candied orange peel.
- Repeat: Pour another third of the cream mixture over the almond mixture. Repeat the layering process with the remaining crushed cookies, almonds, chocolate shavings, lemon zest, and candied orange peel.
- Top It Off: Pour the remaining cream mixture over everything. Smooth out the top with a spatula.
- Chill Out: Cover the pan with the overhanging plastic wrap and freeze for at least 6 hours, or even better, overnight. You want it nice and solid.
- Release the Goodness: When you’re ready to serve, lift the semifreddo out of the loaf pan using the plastic wrap. Place it on a serving plate.
- Slice and Serve: Slice the semifreddo into thick slices and dust with powdered sugar if you’re feelin’ fancy. Serve immediately and watch those eyes light up!
Now, this recipe is just a guideline, okay? Don’t be afraid to play around with it! Use different cookies, nuts, or even add some chopped fruit. Maybe a drizzle of chocolate sauce or some caramel? The possibilities are endless! The most important thing is to have fun and make it your own.
Enjoy, y’all! And don’t forget to share the love with your family and friends. They’ll thank you for it!
